A Plea For Reason………

For those readers in the US, I have been watching media sites since last night, and I am disheartened by your unrelenting attitude of petulance and  hateful jibes.  I have something to say, directly to all of y’all…………

C’mon, guys. Can we wind up the self pitying, sad, apocalyptic, and frankly mean posts, already?

I have some news for you.

My president won. Not because of Latinos, although they helped. Not because of enlightened women, although we helped. Not because of those in favor of freedom of choice, religion, and true liberty (for everyone instead of one cherry-picked group), although they helped.

No one minority or special interest group did this. We did it together. We read, we watched, and we listened. We talked, blogged, and spread our message far and wide.

There was no conspiracy. There was no blackout. There was simply a very large segment of the population who wanted to move forward. We don’t want war. We don’t want to pay higher & higher taxes so that the insanely wealthy can pay an even smaller percentage than they do now. We want accountability. We want progress.

We want the right to live without being micromanaged, and we want the same right for everyone else….including those who are currently continuing to throw mud and vitriol at us.

No, we aren’t lazy. No, we don’t want handouts. We want a safety net, for ourselves, and for everyone else. We care about all of our fellow citizens. We want to cooperate, and we want to see bipartisanship.

Let’s do this. Let’s do great things for all of us and stop rolling in the mud.

My President is your President. He is OUR President, so let’s show him the respect he earned and deserves.

Props to you, President Obama!

Congratulations, Mr. President.  I am proud of you, proud of us, and proud to be an American.

Insulting? Yep, You Betcha. Racist? Yeah, I Think So Too, Bill…….

Bill Maher continues to amaze me.  I seldom listen to him for very long before he manages to toss some nasty slap in with his commentary that turns me off him.  Over the last few weeks I have seen multiple quotes that not only did not offend me, but actually voiced my own thoughts quite well.  Now I have fallen over an entire blog entry that is worded so much better than I could say it, I just gotta’ pass it along.

Bill Maher – Obama.  “He Tried.  You Tried.”

Every time I think the sad, extended train wreck that is the Republican Presidential campaign cannot make me lose any more faith in a large segment of our population, they go and do it again.  I don’t understand why anyone except a tiny percentage of upper class wealthy Caucasian males of specific religious bent would vote for anyone flying under this banner.  I really, really don’t.

The Conservatives have managed to accomplish something I never thought possible.  They shaped current conditions so that a blog entry from Bill Maher made my night.

Things On My Facebook Newsfeed That Have Really P*!!ed Me Off Today………

Before we start, let me just say………….

AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!

As Chainsaw so wisely said in the movie Summer School, “Tension breaker — had to be done.”

Okey dokey, here goes…………

Quote – “I was under the impression that we fought a war to be free of England’s opinions.  Who gives a shit what they think?”

My 27 cents – in response to reported criticism of Mitt Romney’s less than impressive visit.  Yes, this was a comment made by a close family member.  Sigh……..  Oh, by all means, let us all agree that the leader of our nation need not possess any people skills, tact, or intelligence whatsoever in dealing with allies or foreign dignitaries as long as we can holler “Go USA”

Quote – “Solar plant in Vegas gets $20M govt cash & fails. Great. Obama found a way to lose money investing in solar company located in desert.” -@fredthompson

My 27 cents – regarding the closure of the Amonix plant in Nevada.  The interesting thing about that is they qualified for their 16.5 million dollars of stimulus/bailout under Bush.  Do you copy/paste addicts ever bother to source or fact check anything?

Quote – “It’s not about chicken, it’s about free speech”  – Mike Huckabee meme

My 27 cents – Actually, it is about accountability for our words and actions, Mike.  I would never make use of a public platform to publicize intolerant, bigoted, racist, or hate filled ideals.  If I ever do, though, I damn well expect to be called on it.  Free speech is a poor excuse for a shield in this case.  As for the originator of the remarks that started this flapdoodle…..You opened your mouth, sir, and when you did you invited the alternate opinions of those who disagree with you.  You opened your chain of eateries up for boycotts and the anger of those you targeted.  You can’t cry foul now.  You started it.  The only thing Mike got right is that it is NOT about chicken.

Quote – “Great Words…. But, not from a Great Person! This would be a good thing if he wasn’t for Gay Marriages, Gay Rights, and he wasn’t saying this Because of the Whole” Chicka-fil-a” incident! I am a true believer in God and His Commandments. I don’t put down Gays or there choice’s in Life, But I don’t agree with them either. I just wish that they would except the fact that 86.9% of the Worlds Population is Straight or Heterosexual, and that 89% of them do not like, or approve of the Gay’s choice’s and life styles. We should not be made to except them or to allow them in our Christian lives. I don’t want my kids, or grand kids exposed to a lifestyle, that is sinful in Gods Eyes.. ((WHY?? Some may ask..)) Because 99% of the people today become a product of the environment, in which they surround themselves with! {If you hang out with People who do drugs, alcohol, and live perverse Lifestyles… then soon you will also become one of them.}” posted under the following quote by Mayor Corey Booker : “Before you speak to me about your religion, first show it to me in how you treat other people.  Before you tell me how much you love your God, show me how much you love all his children.”

My 27 cents – Darlin’ your hypocrisy is showin’.  You are doing nothing BUT putting them down.  I already addressed my opinion of the line where free speech ends, so I will let that lie on this one.  Frankly, I am not so sure I want MY children exposed to YOU, your bigotry, hatred, intolerance, or utter (sorry, I don’t know how else to say it) ignorance.  If your logic is correct, they might become as hateful as you, simply by osmosis from exposure to you.  I certainly don’t want that.

Ever look around and wonder who the HELL are these people, and why do they claim to know me?

Come On In, But Watch Out For The Flaming Bag-O-Poo On The Front Step…………

Wow.  I have discovered the best way to get flamed into the next millennium.  I just posted a mild, mostly non-inflammatory (I swear…although it IS opinionated) comment in support of President Obama on his Google+ page.  Holy crap on a cracker.  Within minutes I rec’d numerous verbal assaults, ranging from the kinder, gentler “You are an idiot” to the more creative “Stupid b*&^h, take a pill and change your pad.  You’re too f*&%ing stupid to post here”.  Well, I guess they showed me.  For what it’s worth, here was my original statement, which was the original cause of the lighted virtual poo currently smoldering gently on my G+ doorstep:

obama thread comment

Surprisingly, your creative responses have not swayed me and converted me back to your fold. Yes, I do support him. No, I don’t really think questioning my mother’s legitimacy is the best way to open a dialogue.

Now, I believe you should not simply go looking for trouble.  If I had posted that on a pro- Paul or pro- Romney thread I would certainly have expected some hate thrown my way.  I posted my comment on Obama’s Google+ page on one of Obama’s posts.  Geez folks.  Try decaf.

Deconstructing Dinesh

With the increasingly discussed D’Souza documentary 2016 Obama’s America looming ever closer, I felt it might be a good time to look into the man, and motivation, behind the movie.

Joe Ricketts’ New Venture

The credibility of those who make and promote informative documentaries that seek to enlighten us should be considered when weighing the potenial bias therein.  A word or two about Mr. D’Souza might be apropos here:

Agree or disagree, become a fan or foe of the man, you must at least at least acknowledge the clear and evident bias here.  This individual has made a not inconsiderable amount of money by casting aspersions upon the Democratic and Liberal ideals opposed and feared by Conservatives.  As an additional point of interest, I note that most neutral or Democrat/Liberal slanted posts, reviews, and articles on this man are from 2010 and prior.  From 2011 through 2012 the search engine results are predominately pro-Conservative.  I am by no means a conspiracy proponent, but I do believe that an enormous amount of money and effort is being poured into ousting Obama and any Liberal or Democratic influence from our government.  Those two things cannot be totally unrelated.  At any rate, I believe folks should inform themselves about the source before deciding whether to believe the story.

* Before I get called on this, the percentage of financing accredited to Ricketts is around 5%.  I maintain, however, that the point is not how much is put into an enterprise as much as how much benefit is received from any support at all.

You Go, Bill!

Bill Nye, one of the icons of my youth, has endorsed President Obama in the upcoming election.

He wears a bow tie. Bow ties are cool, ya’ know?

I always looked up to this man, and he has impressed me once again.

Faux News Strikes Again……..

So now I am receiving multiple posts from well meaning friends with this link:

For those who want to know what the bill actually states, here it is http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-112hr347enr/pdf/BILLS-112hr347enr.pdf .

Yes, it is absolutely true that President Obama signed this bill.  I am unsure about the allegation that he signed it ‘in secret’, since neither I nor any of these other commentators were with him at the moment he signed it.  ‘In secret’ brings to my mind things done in stealth, under cover of darkness, behind closed doors, to be hidden away from prying eyes.  The same day Obama signed this bill (which passed 399-3 with little to no comment by either party), his press secretary put out a press release to the public http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2012/03/08/statement-press-secretary-hr-347 .  The bill was also listed on the white house site as an upcoming bill prior to the President signing it.  That doesn’t seem very stealthy to me.

While it is true that this bill clearly has the potential for abuse, that is by no means a unique situation.  Almost any law can be abused or twisted by those in power.  Sad but true fact.  This is not the first law I have seen that concerned me, and it will not be the last.

What interests me about the current flap is not so much what HR 347 may  or may not be used for, but the make-up of the loudest detractors, Faux News and the Republicans.  Here we are, heading into an election, and whaddya’ know?  Scandal, rabble rousing, and vilification by the same folks who supported it without demur.  When I see them attacking their own with equal fervor I will give them a little more attention.

*Note, The initial vote in the House was 399-3, the bill was amended slightly in the Senate, passed unanimously, was sent back through the House due to its amended state and passed again, this time 388-3.
