Don’t Look, Ethel!

Best as I could tell, these folks were kissing each other on the cheek and holding hands.
Even if there was some actual kissing, there ain’t a child on Earth that hasn’t seen straight folks do that (and more) in public.  Come to think of it, I have seen worse on any number of supposedly child appropriate cartoons and family friendly kids shows which air during kid TV hours on multiple channels.
This has nothing to do with PDA and everything to do with discomfort around something a segment of society is unused to seeing and therefore uncomfortable with. That segment needs to suck it up and deal with it, not try to drag everyone else down to their level.
The only way any of those children will be scarred is if their ignorant ‘straight’ parents do it.  I am not worried.  I’m quite sure that many parents will sink to the occasion so that they can continue to shield their children from reality and common sense.  There will be a whole new crop of little intolerant bigots to release into the world in no time.
Sigh.
Stories like this are exactly why demonstrations take place. To educate the public.

What SHE Said………

I can’t say enough positive things about this blog. LGBT rights are dear to my heart, and this post took my thoughts and phrased them far, far better than I ever could. I’ll be visiting here often, I think.

AwayPoint

With marriage equality battles in front of the voters in four states, the faithful are out in flocks to defend traditional matrimony.  I don’t know exactly what traditional means in this context. It certainly doesn’t mean biblical, or it would include captive virgins and sex slaves and fathering children for your deceased brothers. It certainly doesn’t mean Mitt Romney’s version of traditional, since his great grandfather had five wives and his great-great grandfather had twelve.

But whatever.  I hope they fight tooth and nail and keep fighting until they are so old that their teeth and nails fall out. The battles are expensive, but they are worth every penny. Why? Because of all the nasty things that religion is doing in our country, beating up on gays is one of the most visibly nasty, especially to the young people who will be shaping our future. Teenagers, even many…

Does A Non-Deed Count As A Good Deed?

So Chik-Fil-A has reportedly taken the bold step of ceasing financial support to hate groups.  11 Alive posed the question ‘Do you think this helps or hurts the Atlanta company?’

Hmmm.  Don’t need to think long or hard about that, at least not in regards to whether the purveyors of intolerant chicken rise or fall in my estimation in light of this new information.

All this does is put them back at the square one of not doing anything intentionally harmful or discriminatory.  So after all this controversy, the best they can apparently manage is to do nothing at all.  Well, I’ll take nothing at all over the knowledge that they actively finance hate groups and dogmatically driven legislation, but it would be nice to see them take a further step and join the ranks of those who are actually trying to do something positive.

So…….it won’t hurt them, but I see no reason why it should help them, either.

Gee, Guys, I don’t Know……..

Okay, the sad thing here is that they actually do believe they are being persecuted and unfairly labeled as a hate group.  The level of blindness in operation here simply staggers me.

why call us a hate group?

Umm…..if you stopped yelling at the top of your voices about all the things you hate, perhaps we would stop ‘attacking’ you with the truth.

Powerful, & True……..

More eloquent than I have ever been.  This strikes a deep resounding chord within me, because it is so very true.

Owldolatrous Productions take on the true implications of the Chick-Fil-A debate, and what is really at stake here.

Read it.  Please.  You don’t have to support it, or agree with it, but at least read it and give it some thought.  The most important step towards  tolerance is to open your heart and mind enough to understand, really understand, what motivates others.  Once you understand them, and they you,  you can each work towards middle ground.  Knee jerk reactions that start debates which turn into hate filled arguments always seem to start with folks who just simply do not listen, then put their own interpretation on the points others were trying to make.  Stop.  Listen.  Think.  Speak slowly, and from the heart.  You may still disagree, but there might be less hate to spread around.

nice cow

This is a wise cow. Listen to her.

Well, If You’re Gonna Put It THAT Way………

As the nice drunk in Groundhog Day said…..”That about sums it up for me.”

I am very proud to see the Democratic party making the advancement of marriage equality a plank in their platform.  May they follow through on this promise, and get us all one step closer to the equality we ALL deserve.

Things On My Facebook Newsfeed That Have Really P*!!ed Me Off Today………

Before we start, let me just say………….

AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!

As Chainsaw so wisely said in the movie Summer School, “Tension breaker — had to be done.”

Okey dokey, here goes…………

Quote – “I was under the impression that we fought a war to be free of England’s opinions.  Who gives a shit what they think?”

My 27 cents – in response to reported criticism of Mitt Romney’s less than impressive visit.  Yes, this was a comment made by a close family member.  Sigh……..  Oh, by all means, let us all agree that the leader of our nation need not possess any people skills, tact, or intelligence whatsoever in dealing with allies or foreign dignitaries as long as we can holler “Go USA”

Quote – “Solar plant in Vegas gets $20M govt cash & fails. Great. Obama found a way to lose money investing in solar company located in desert.” -@fredthompson

My 27 cents – regarding the closure of the Amonix plant in Nevada.  The interesting thing about that is they qualified for their 16.5 million dollars of stimulus/bailout under Bush.  Do you copy/paste addicts ever bother to source or fact check anything?

Quote – “It’s not about chicken, it’s about free speech”  – Mike Huckabee meme

My 27 cents – Actually, it is about accountability for our words and actions, Mike.  I would never make use of a public platform to publicize intolerant, bigoted, racist, or hate filled ideals.  If I ever do, though, I damn well expect to be called on it.  Free speech is a poor excuse for a shield in this case.  As for the originator of the remarks that started this flapdoodle…..You opened your mouth, sir, and when you did you invited the alternate opinions of those who disagree with you.  You opened your chain of eateries up for boycotts and the anger of those you targeted.  You can’t cry foul now.  You started it.  The only thing Mike got right is that it is NOT about chicken.

Quote – “Great Words…. But, not from a Great Person! This would be a good thing if he wasn’t for Gay Marriages, Gay Rights, and he wasn’t saying this Because of the Whole” Chicka-fil-a” incident! I am a true believer in God and His Commandments. I don’t put down Gays or there choice’s in Life, But I don’t agree with them either. I just wish that they would except the fact that 86.9% of the Worlds Population is Straight or Heterosexual, and that 89% of them do not like, or approve of the Gay’s choice’s and life styles. We should not be made to except them or to allow them in our Christian lives. I don’t want my kids, or grand kids exposed to a lifestyle, that is sinful in Gods Eyes.. ((WHY?? Some may ask..)) Because 99% of the people today become a product of the environment, in which they surround themselves with! {If you hang out with People who do drugs, alcohol, and live perverse Lifestyles… then soon you will also become one of them.}” posted under the following quote by Mayor Corey Booker : “Before you speak to me about your religion, first show it to me in how you treat other people.  Before you tell me how much you love your God, show me how much you love all his children.”

My 27 cents – Darlin’ your hypocrisy is showin’.  You are doing nothing BUT putting them down.  I already addressed my opinion of the line where free speech ends, so I will let that lie on this one.  Frankly, I am not so sure I want MY children exposed to YOU, your bigotry, hatred, intolerance, or utter (sorry, I don’t know how else to say it) ignorance.  If your logic is correct, they might become as hateful as you, simply by osmosis from exposure to you.  I certainly don’t want that.

Ever look around and wonder who the HELL are these people, and why do they claim to know me?

Come On In, But Watch Out For The Flaming Bag-O-Poo On The Front Step…………

Wow.  I have discovered the best way to get flamed into the next millennium.  I just posted a mild, mostly non-inflammatory (I swear…although it IS opinionated) comment in support of President Obama on his Google+ page.  Holy crap on a cracker.  Within minutes I rec’d numerous verbal assaults, ranging from the kinder, gentler “You are an idiot” to the more creative “Stupid b*&^h, take a pill and change your pad.  You’re too f*&%ing stupid to post here”.  Well, I guess they showed me.  For what it’s worth, here was my original statement, which was the original cause of the lighted virtual poo currently smoldering gently on my G+ doorstep:

obama thread comment

Surprisingly, your creative responses have not swayed me and converted me back to your fold. Yes, I do support him. No, I don’t really think questioning my mother’s legitimacy is the best way to open a dialogue.

Now, I believe you should not simply go looking for trouble.  If I had posted that on a pro- Paul or pro- Romney thread I would certainly have expected some hate thrown my way.  I posted my comment on Obama’s Google+ page on one of Obama’s posts.  Geez folks.  Try decaf.

Well, There’s Your Problem……

Okay, here’s the problem with your position on this issue: you are at this very moment doing exactly what you say we, as a nation, should not do.  So you believe that we risk divine retribution for presuming we know better than God what defines or is acceptable in a marriage?  I would point out the rather obvious flaw in your argument is that marriage is a man-made state administered by the government and if you actually read and understood your good book instead of parroting back the agendas of whatever church you attend, you would know that the very text you claim to reference does not, in fact condemn homosexual marriage.  Basically, by attempting to define for everyone around you exactly what you personally believe to be the appropriate definition of marriage, you are inviting the aforementioned divine retribution on all of us, yes?  In any case, I was never much of a Chick-Fil-A fan anyway.  Your fries kinda suck.  It’s not like you lost me as a customer for your appalling ideology, but it’s nice to know I have a reason other than the lousy food not to patronize your restaurant.

You stay classy there, Chick-Fil-A.

In reading and re-reading varied articles and blogs about this issue, I found a few I believe are well worth passing along here.  Take from them what you will.
